By far the largest problem we face since we decided to issue this series of TELL IT AS IT IS WARNING BULLETINS, as part of the service PHRAA offers to existing and prospective park homeowners, is trying to keep up with, investigate, compile and publish reports on the ever increasing number of new dubious practices being used by unscrupulous park owners, (UPO’s) (many of which are as a direct result of the new legislation) against innocent and virtually helpless park homeowners. This latest one is yet another method being used by the UPO to interfere with the park homeowners right to sell their home on the open market.
From reports PHRAA has received it appears that some homeowners wishing to sell their homes especially homes which the industry regard as older homes, (over ten years as stated in an article written by Alicia Dunne, Director of Policy, National Park Homes Council (NHPC) published in a Park Home Magazine ) are being told by the park owner that before he will allow them to sell, the HOME HAS TO BE MADE FIREPROOF in order, they say, to conform with new regulations.
Immediately on being alerted to the existence of this alleged “new regulation” (scam), the fact that it has already being used, and knowing full well from experience that it will soon become common place, PHRAA contacted the Government Office responsible for park home law and found, as we expected, that no such new regulation had been issued.
If you or any of your fellow park homeowners have experienced this or any similar restrictions being imposed on your right to sell your home, please let PHRAA know. All information passed to PHRAA is treated in confidence.
